Sunrise was somber, cloudy and blue, no rays to speak of, but an ominous feeling in the air. Set off early for the closest shoreline. It was partway through the soupy marshland when time slowed down. Sound ceased, and as quickly as I traversed the boulders ahead, the ocean horizon did not seem to come closer but stayed just beyond the next rocky mass. There were wonderful treasures in that in-between place. Ancient seagull traps, a geometric cave, small contained ecosystems of land and water. The sheep there wore extra jerseys, to keep out the brisk coastal wind. To anchor myself, I kept an eye on the lighthouse, still in view. The clouds behind it darkened, and with a rumble of thunder, sound returned. I made it home just before the rain came.
